How To Manage Your Weight Successfully

Diet

Basically a healthy diet is one that balances all of the food groups, so that you do not overeat some and neglect the others.  All foods have a valuable contribution to make to our health and lifestyles, and fats, sugar and proteins are just as important as carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, it is just that we need less of some types of foods than others and when they become imbalanced we can get overweight or run down.

You should be looking to include plenty of fruit and vegetables in a healthy diet, as well as low fat proteins (lean meat, poultry, fish and pulses) and also healthy complex carbs such as whole grain cereals, which can give us energy without piling on the pounds.

Exercise

Exercise has a number of benefits for our bodies, and plays a vital role in maintaining weight.  Three 30 mins sessions of cardiovascular exercise every week can burn excess calories, support our metabolism and also boost immune systems and energy levels, and can improve your overall body shape toning up stomachs, buttocks and legs, and this can make you feel much more confident about your appearance.

Don’t punish yourself

If you have eaten too much for lunch or dinner, don’t punish yourself by trying to starve for the rest of the day or making yourself do extra exercise to try and work off the calories.  This can force you into negative emotional and obsessive cycles with food, which can persist throughout your life, making it very difficult to maintain a healthy weight as you may trick yourself into believing it is ‘alright’ to overeat or binge on food as long as you punish yourself afterwards.

If you do overeat for one or two meals just have a light snack for your next meal, and try not to become fixated or obsessive over sticking to your diet or healthy eating plan, it is a guideline to help you maintain your weight not a strict regime you must punish yourself for if you don’t follow it religiously every day. Don’t forget the key to maintaining your weight successfully is balance – in your diet, exercise and attitudes towards food. :)
